Katsyris Rivera-Kientz is a third-year Sociology Ph.D. student and a Research Fellow with the Sustainable Solutions Lab at UMass Boston. She majored in Psychology and Community Mental Health at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey and completed her Master at UMB Critical Ethnic and Community Studies (CECS) program in 2018. Her research interests lie at the intersection of political and environmental sociology; transnational activism; colonialism; education; race and gender issues; natural and "not-so-natural disasters," and the Puerto Rican Diaspora in the U.S. She is a community-oriented scholar devoted to collaborating and learning from different communities that have been threatened by climate change.
