Selection Process

Old Africa Map The program seeks to serve seasoned, value-driven leaders with proven accomplishments. We choose a new class of Fellows every two years. There is no application process for the fellowship. The Foundation selects funders and previous Barr Fellows to nominate eligible candidates. Foundation staff also make nominations. A six-member Selection Committee makes the final decision.  The Selection Committee includes three Barr staff and trustees, as well as Reverend Ray Hammond, Hubie Jones, and Melinda Marble.

Candidates selected by the Committee who have aspirations to continue to lead and are willing to make the three year commitment move to the final stage of the selection process. They complete a statement of intent and meet briefly with members of the Selection Committee to confirm that their intentions and the goals of the Fellowship are aligned.
